10 Ways to trust yourself more

“Trust Who? ME!?” Being born in this world with a heart that needed two surgeries (within my first 5 years of taking my first breath) definitely influenced how I learned to trust my body. This questioning of my power became interwoven with my ability to ask myself hard questions since a very young age. It brought me to a place of courage that was NECESSARY for me. I had to have the courage to trust: that my body could heal and grow AND THRIVE amidst the challenges presented to me. I owe it to my family and community coming together to show me both spiritual and social practices to help make a clear pathway for that! There are so many things money can’t buy.

A part of being human is knowing how life can get intense really quickly and there’s a continual ebb and flow between challenging times and times of triumph. In my lineage, self trust as a woman has been something that I feel is extra imperative to embrace and reclaim with all of the opportunities that are available to me.

We live in a busy world filled with influencers and social media where we are surrounded by people with “best” advice. While suggestions abound and we rely on those in positions of power to authoritatively know what’s best for us, the universe also seems to simultaneously be testing where we put our attention. Our intuition plays a key role to tell us if our choices are in fact in line with our values and beliefs. This is where self trust plays such a crucial role in guiding us as we continuously adventure in life.

People who trust themselves are more easily able to overcome obstacles and survive difficulties. The resilience that comes with trusting yourself means that you are confident in your ambitions and dreams and ride the waves of challenge and you don’t give up or lose hope during the stormy times.

In psychology, self-trust is proven to be both a gate keeper AND motivator for both personal autonomy and self esteem.

To celebrate this fertile opportunity for change, and to keep things simple, I've put together 10 ways that will help you on your self trust journey:

  1. Be consistently aware of your thoughts and emotions and how they are affecting your decisions
  2. Have the courage to stick to your core values and say goodbye to peer pressure
  3. Unhook yourself from judgment or excessive approval from others
  4. Focus on your own life vision and what is in alignment with your own way of being in the world
  5. Have amazing boundaries because you are relying on your own unique integrity of knowing what you need
  6. Know when to prioritize your well-being over everything else
  7. Be confident that when life throws you lemons, you don't just make lemonade, you hit them out of the park
  8. Pursue your dreams/ideal outcomes without allowing others to interfere with your path
  9. Embrace regret as an amazing teacher and learn to feel the full depth of it
  10. Be mindful of the present moment. Living in the now will help you to not be distracted or worried about the past or the future
If you are willing to give up, or sacrifice your integrity to trust yourself, then your self respect is deeply impacted. Every day, no matter what our identity, background or past experiences, we are each rich in our personal values and beliefs that continue to define who we are. Listening to and communicating with your inner world defines how you express yourself in your outer world. Trusting yourself is a really rad process for that!
